Vladimir Ananich

Vladimir Ananich was born on September 17,1958 in Moscow into the family of practical economists. Upon graduating from a secondary school, Ananich
entered the Industrial and Housing Construction depart­ment of the Moscow Engineer and Construction Institute.
In 1976 he was enlisted into the army and until 1978 served in a posting platoon of the Engineer Troops de­ployed on the shore of the Finnish Gulf.
From 1981 -1986, Ananich worked at the Moscow «Izolyator» factory where he could develop his organisa­tional merits to a large extent. Starting his career as a rank-and-file loader, Ananich, at the age of 24 and without any special education, headed the transport department of the enterprise.
In 1986, Ananich established a video studio at the recreation centre Panorama in the Sokolnichesky district in Moscow. On a par, in 1983 he founded the co-operative Video in the Moscow’s suburban town of Khimki.
Late in 1988, he began viagra as a film director at the Central Studio of Documentaries.
Starting with filming commercials for the «2x2» Moscow TV channel, his private small company VCT (video, cinema, television) had overcome a lot of organisational difficulties. Working with leased equipment, it managed to start airing its own programme «Businessmen’s morning», as well as contributing to the «Teiemixt» programme with its «Business reports» and to the popular «VID» show, with its «500 days».
The close joint-stock telecompany «Your Commercial Television» with a short name of VKT (abbreviation of the Russian Vashe Kommercheskoye Televidenie – Your Commercial TV) was founded on November 29,1991.
Among its founders were the Russian Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, companies Rinako, VCT, the Russian National Commercial Bank, News Agency of Economic News, the Vilnius and Asian Stock Exchanges.
The authorised capital of the company amounted to 207 million roubles. In 1994 it reached already 350 million.
VKT owns brokers’ offices at the Russian Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Moscow Commodity Exchange.
At present, VKT films and airs one of the biggest packag­es of business news programmes including daily «Busi­nessmen’s times», «Business news», «Cultural news», weekly «Voucher’s Adventures in Russia», monthly «VKT presents» together with making over ten commercials every months. The company’s correspondents’ network consists of 250 bureaus all over Russia and the southern part of the ex-USSR.

Vagit Alekperov

Vagit Alekperov was born on September 1,1950 in the Azerbaijan capital of Baku into the family of a civil servant.
Upon graduating from a secondary school, he entered the Baku Institute of Oil and Chemistry and graduated from it in 1974 with a diploma of engineer specialized in technol­ogy and complex automation of oil extraction process.
From 1974-1979, he worked at the oil extracting associ­ation Kaspmorneft, at first as an operator, then as an engineer, and finally, as a deputy head of the enterprise.
Since 1979, Alekperov’s life has been tightly associated with the development of Western Siberia. Working as a deputy director-general of two industrial associations Surgutneftgaz and Bashneft, he contributed greatly to the shaping of the Soviet school of oil extraction.
In 1984, Alekperov was elected the First Director-General of one of Siberia’s most promising oil associations Kogalymneftgaz. He has been always proud of the Govern­ments awards received at that time, the Order – Badge of Honour and the Medal «For developing the Oil and Gas Complex of Siberia».
In 1990, Alelperov was transferred to Moscow to become the youngest deputy Minister of Oil and Gas Industries of the USSR. Earlier such a young person never had been placed so high in the industry. During the painstaking period of reorganisation, it was Alekperov who practically mastered the oil industry of the country.
Late in 1991 the oil concern Lukoil was created, and then transformed into the joint stock company «Oil Company «Lukoil».
Lukoil is the biggest oil company in Russia. It was established in April 1993 by a special Resolution of the Russian Government in conformity with a Decree signed by president Yeltsin. The government appointed Alekperov President of Lukoil.
The Company includes Western Siberia’s three major oil extracting associations Lukoil-Kogalymneftgaz, Lukoil-Langepasneftgaz and Lukoil-Uraineftgaz extracting together a quarter of oil in Western Siberia and one sixth of all oil produced by Russia.
The Company also includes two major refineries Lukoil-Permneftorgsintez and Lukoil-Volgogradneftpererabotka.
In 1993, they processed about 19 million tonnes of crude,produced about 2.5 million tonnes of petroleum, 4.3 million tonnes of diesel fuel and 5.3 million tonnes of mazut. Lukoil produced 48.8 million tonnes of crude oil and 2225.8 million tonnes of side gas in 1993. About 20 per cent of Russia’s industrial power are situated in the zone of fuel supplies coming from Lukoil. In 1993, the Company sold about 11 million tonnes of oil products. Lukoil owns 112 oil depots and about 700 filling stations capable of selling over 15 milion tonnes of oil products a year.
The Company is building new and modernizing the existing oil depots. Its filling stations are being equipped with upto-date automation systems. They have started offering new services.

Yuri Agapov

Yuri Agapov was born on December 13,1958 in the Byelorussian settlement of Ros.
Upon graduating from a secondary school in 1975, he entered the Credit and Economics department of the Moscow Financial Institute. He graduated from the institute and entered its post graduation courses. In November 1984, Agapov defended his thesis devoted to problems of short-term crediting of industrial enterprises and received his candidate degree in Economics.
Upon defending the thesis, Agapov began working as a senior researcher at the АН-Union Research and Projection Institute for Automated Systems of Management.
In 1988, Agapov started to realize his ambition to estab­lish a bank.
He registered his Credo Bank on March 27,1989. The following year was something special for Agapov. In a bid to strengthen his positions, he contacted officials of the State Planning Committee of the USSR, and was busy preparing a lot of different documents.
At present, the Credo Bank has developed into one of the largest Russian commercial banks, holding a leading position on the Russian market.
As of January 1,1994, the statutory capital of Credo Bank, consisting to considerable extent of foreign curren­cy, surpassed 23 billion roubles, the balance total reached 784.2 billion roubles. As of May 1994, the hard currency assets of the Bank surpassed 1.2 trillion roubles. Credo Bank was the first on the CIS territory to be granted on May 16,1990, with the General License giving the right to conduct hard currency transactions, and thus had paved the way for other Russian commercial banks.
Credo Bank was the first Russian bank to have issued the Visa credit cards. It pioneered the “plastic money” market, which was absolutely new for this country, and still remains its outspoken leader. The Bank established and keeps under control the largest in Russia processing company United Card System.
The Bank has established a wide network abroad opening 54 correspondent accounts and has won the reputation of a reliable partner in international banking and financial circles.
Its own banking network includes 27 affiliates located in industrial and financial centres of Russia.
Agapov was the President of the Association of Commer­cial Banks of the USSR. In 1993, the Russian Biographical Institute named him the Man of the Year among industrial­ists and bankers.
